* History

After the Pingtung County Police Bureau was granted the permission and established the Pingtung Police Precinct on June 1st,1951, the organization structure of the bureau was:
Under the Director, there were the Inspectors' Office, the Administration Section, the Criminal Investigation Section, the Economic Affairs Section, the Peace Preservation Section, the General Affairs Section, the Accounting Office, the Personnel Office, the Household Registration Office, the Security Office, the Mountainous Affairs Office, the Criminal Investigation Brigade, the Special Police Brigade, the Fire Control Brigade (the 3rd Branch of the 6th Office in the 5th Section), and the five precincts, including the Pingtung Precinct, the Donggang Precinct, the Ligang Precinct, the Chaojhou Precinct, and the Hengchun Precinct. In July, 1958, the Mountainous Affairs Office was dissolved, and the Fangliao Precinct was established. In 1968, the organization structure of Pingtung County Police Bureau was revised, which made it contain the Director, two Deputy Directors, the Inspectors' Office, the Security Office, the Household Registration Office, the Foreign Affairs Office, the Accounting Office, the Administration Section, the Peace Preservation Section, the Criminal Investigation Section, the Economic Affairs Section, the General Affairs Section, the Contact Center, the Criminal Investigation Brigade, the Special Police Brigade, and the six Precincts of Pingtung, Donggang, Ligang, Chaojhou, Hengchun, and Fangliao.

On July 1st, 1969, the household registration was integrated into police system. The Household Registration Office was changed into Household Registration Section. On May 17th, 1971, under the Taiwan Province Government's act on the 7th and the 8th Article of the "Organization Regulations of Police Bureau" revised by the Executive Yuan, the Pingtung County Police Bureau would establish the Traffic Group (under the Administration Section, integrated into the Traffic Police Brigade in April, 1984), the Traffic Police Brigade, the Electronic Communication Group, and the Juvenile Affairs Group, in which 44 new members in total would joint the bureau. This policy should have implemented starting from July 1st, 1971, based on the regulation, but due to the lack of funds, the implementation had been postponed until 1981.

In 1985, the Economic Affairs Section of Pingtung County Police Bureau was dissolved, and its duties were transferred to the Criminal Investigation Brigade. The Civil Defense Section was also dissolved and integrated into the Peace Preservation Section. Its title was changed into the Public Order and Civil Defense Section. The General Affairs Section was changed into the Logistics Section. The Duty Command Center was officially added into the organization structure, and so did the Training Section. (After adding and dissolving, the organization of Pingtung County Police Bureau contained: the Inspectors' Office, the Public Security Office, the Accounting Office, the Secretariat Office, the Personnel Office, the Public Order and Civil Defense Section, the Administration Section, the Training Section, the Logistics Section, the Household Registration Section, the Foreign Affairs Sections, the Duty Command Center, Civil Defense Center, the Criminal Investigation Brigade, Traffic Police Brigade, the Special Police Brigade, the Fire Control Brigade, and 33 Household Registration Offices in Pingtung, Ligang, Donggang, Chaojhou, Fangliao, Hengchun, and Pingtung County.)

  • The Precincts: 983 (distributed to 6 Precincts, 124 Police Stations,and 23 Checkpoints)
  • The Criminal Investigation Brigade: 81
  • The Special Police Brigade: 76
  • The Fire Control Brigade: 166
  • Traffic Police Brigade: 22
  • Household Registration Offices: 244

On July 16th, 1987, under the Lifting of Martial Law and the launching of Boai Project, security inspection was added as a duty of the Bureau, which established the Security Inspection Section in October, 1988. On June 1st, 1980, the Neipu Police Precinct was established. On July, 1992, the household registration was separated from the police system, and on November, the Information Office was established. The number of personnel in Pingtung County Police Bureau in 1998 were:

  • The Criminal Investigation Brigade: 352
  • The Special Police Brigade: 60
  • Traffic Police Brigade: 137
  • Civil Defense Center: 11

All the Precincts contain 123 Police Stations, 23 Checkpoints, and 35 Fishing Port Security Inspection Stations. The total number of the personnel of Pingtung County Police Bureau was 2509.

On September 17th, 1998, the task of fire control was separated from the police system. The original Fire Control Brigade of Pingtung County Police Bureau transformed into Ping Tung Fire Department. In August, 1999, Pingtung County Police Bureau after appreciation decided to establish the Public Relations Office and the Juvenile Delinquency Prevention Brigade. On February 19th, 2000, the task of security inspection was transferred to the Coast Guard Administration. The organization regulations of Pingtung County Police Bureau have been revised and practiced since October, 2000.
